Steeg Law is proud to be recognized by New Orleans CityBusiness as one of the Best Legacy-owned businesses in the city. The firm is among the companies included in the publication’s In the Lead: Best Legacy Businesses 2026 special section that spotlights businesses with decades of success that have evolved with the times and continued to serve their communities.
Steeg Law Firm was founded in 1972 by Moise S. Steeg, Jr., who brought together a select group of talented lawyers in New Orleans who shared his dedication to his clients and passion for his profession and the City of New Orleans. His goal was to create a firm devoted exclusively to real estate, litigation, and business law that was tied intricately to the direction and future of New Orleans. It is a legacy that we continue to carry on today.
As noted in CityBusiness, “We have been involved in many of the real estate projects that define the landscape of the Greater New Orleans, from Lakeside Shopping Center and the Galleria to Place St. Charles and One Canal Place. We have particular expertise in handling the unique and difficult real estate issues associated with the riverfront, from Woldenberg Park to the Hilton Hotel to the former Missouri Pacific site, and with Canal Street.”
One of the key takeaways that CityBusiness editor Lance Traweek found is that “Being able to adapt and draw on their own ingenuity has been key to creating businesses that thrives.” We can attest to this. During the firm’s 55 years of existence, the economy, interest rates, weather events and COVID have impacted our commercial and residential real estate clients. We have adapted purchase agreements, leases and documentation to include provisions to address the impacts and add flexibility.
When asked what key factors have contributed to Steeg Law’s ability to stay competitive, Managing Partner Robert Steeg said, “We are very attuned to our clients’ needs and goals. Being small has allowed us to pivot and change as needed. We hire good lawyers, paralegals and staff. Our attorneys have always been involved in the business community and in the broader community so that our work doesn’t occur in isolation and we understand the role our work plays in our city.
As a firm devoted exclusively to real estate and business law, our work is intricately tied to the direction and future of New Orleans. When New Orleans is doing well, our clients are buying, selling, leasing, developing, planning, and expanding. We are part of that growth. It’s what we do, and we take a lot of pride in it.”
