This past holiday season, Steeg Law continued the firm’s annual tradition of participation in Catholic Charities “Adopt a Family,” a gift-giving program to help families in need.

Jan LeBlanc, who is a paralegal at Steeg Law, has organized the firm’s participation for 17 years. “Catholic Charities, Archdiocese of New Orleans has been our partner agency over these last 17 years,” says Jan. “They facilitate us in identifying and assisting persons and families in need. Our success in this annual labor of love reflects our efforts as a group to reach out and truly bring the holiday spirit to disadvantaged families here in the New Orleans area.”

This year Steeg Law adopted a family of four, headed by a single mother of three, who is currently unemployed and cares for her disabled mother. In theory, each participating staff member is asked to select a family member to “adopt” for gift giving. In fact, most of the Steeg Law staff who participate select more than one, if not all, family members for gift giving. Where the children are concerned, they try to purchase equally so that no one child receives more or less than the others.

As is the firm’s custom, everyone assembles in the conference room to wrap and label the gifts. “We were able to raise $630 which we used to purchase gift cards to Walmart and Rouse’s for the family. In addition, we purchased clothes, shoes, and toys for the kids. Mom received a gift card for clothing as well as lotions and bath products. In total, we wrapped 71 individual gifts this year. Once packaged for delivery, we totaled seven large lawn bags waiting to be unpacked on Christmas morning.”

Upon delivery to the Catholic Charities offices, Jan was told by one of the coordinators that she believes Steeg Law to be one of the longest, continually participating partners in the program.
