This holiday season, Steeg Law once again continued the firm’s annual tradition of participation in Catholic Charities “Adopt A Family” gift giving program to help families in need.
The partnership with Catholic Charities, Archdiocese of New Orleans (CCANO) each holiday season is a well-established collaboration at Steeg Law. Typically, the firm adopts a disadvantaged family in the greater New Orleans area. The firm’s staff and attorneys then pool resources in an effort to bring the spirit of the season into that family’s home. This holiday season, while Steeg Law continued their affiliation with CCANO, they realized that there was a newly formed family in need within the ranks of their very own firm family.
Through last year’s partnership and outreach with CCANO, we learned that the Senior Health Bags we assembled filled an under addressed need so, we followed that same blueprint. We purchased reusable tote bags. The bags were then filled with basic health and wellness items to include masks, hand sanitizer, soaps, bath bombs, bath sponges, body wash, towels, toothbrushes and toothpaste, dental floss, mouth wash, cotton balls, body lotions, socks, shampoo, socks, combs/brushes, etc. The firm delivered 15 bags for a male or female recipient, each tied with seasonal ribbon. So, as the tradition with CCANO endures, we made the decision to do more by looking within.
One of our long tenured secretaries was recently granted custody of her 3 nephews ages 12, 4, and 2. We saw an instant family in immediate need. So, our staff purchased gifts and clothes for her boys. All the gifts were wrapped and labeled for each child. Our attorneys contributed funds we used to purchase $850 in gift cards divided between Wal Mart, Winn Dixie, and a generic VISA card. Everything was so well received. This year for the first time, our efforts had names and faces that were familiar to us all. As a group here at Steeg Law, I believe we received far more than we gave.
At the end of the day we made a difference for many both young and old, which is the essence of what the season encourages in all of us.
