Adopt a Family packagesThis Christmas past, 1,451 individuals, represented by 657 families, received gifts under their Christmas trees. This is the far-reaching impact of Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans (CCANO) Adopt-a-Family program. Steeg Law is proud to have been included as a partner participant again in 2023.

Our point of emphasis for the season at Steeg Law was the newly titled, “Family Care Bag,” formerly known as the “Health Bag” from prior years. Different name, same idea.

The process began with a large reusable tote bag purchased by the firm. Each participating staff member was assigned an individual or family unit provided to us by CCANO. That staff member filled the bags(s) with personal care and wellness items. The contents varied but generally included soaps, bath sponges, towels, body wash, toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss, mouthwash, cotton balls, body lotion, shampoo, socks, combs, brushes, laundry detergent and cleaning supplies.

Typically, these types of items take a back seat to basic needs like food and shelter. So, the recipients greatly appreciate receiving the bags because the items fill other important needs. And, the “Lagniappe” is that the bags can be used again for other purposes.

By any measure, the CCANO/Steeg Law partnership continues to positively impact our community here in the greater New Orleans area. Our in-house community is important to us as well, so with that in mind we decided to extend that same positive impact to one of our own Steeg Law family members.

The attorneys and staff again recognized one of our own employees, a woman who has cared for her nephews for some time. The boys, who are 14, six and four, received many of the toys each child most desired. Everything was festively wrapped of course! Last but not least, we were able to raise $500 for Wal-Mart gift cards to contribute to the basic needs of the boys.

All in all, we observed and enjoyed a very well-rounded holiday season of giving.

Please consider the CCANO Adopt-a-Family program this holiday season. The more the merrier!
