As a board member of the Preservation Resource Center (PRC), associate Henry Opotowsky keeps Steeg Law’s residential real estate clients apprised of the many educational programs and resources that the organization offers homeowners.

Classes on How to Care for Your Wood Windows, Navigating the Historic District Landmarks Commission, and one-on-one appointments with a historic tax credit specialist are among the programs that PRC is offering April through June of this year.

How to Care for Your Wood Windows

This in-person class will cover the basics of wood windows. At their shop in the Black Pearl neighborhood, Valerie and Gus Vides, owners of NOLA Wood Windows, will go through the general anatomy of a window, common issues that arise, different stages of window conditions and how historic windows are built to be easily repaired. Homeowners will learn common dos and don’ts for wood windows, and how to vet a professional to make sure they are the right fit.

This course is part of PRC’s Maintain Right class series, which provides homeowners with the knowledge they need to spot potential house problems and find ways to address them.

In this role, he manages the department’s review of development applications, including zoning entitlement, design review, and subdivision proposals. These sessions provide an opportunity for property owners to ask questions and learn more about how to work with the CPC.

Navigating the HDLC (Virtual Class)

Taught by HDLC Senior Architectural Historian, Yvette Jett, this class provides an opportunity for property owners to ask questions and learn more about how to work through the HDLC process
