There has been a ton of coverage over the past few weeks concerning the 20-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. Some has been favorable, highlighting progress the city has made. Some has been negative, noting the geographic areas that are still struggling and the social areas where there are still serious problems.
There can be no doubt, however, that the Downtown area of New Orleans has been a shining success in the 20 years after Katrina. It has been transformed into a model of a 24/7 live-work-play environment – still the center of economic and business activity, but now also home to apartments, grocery stores, wine bars, retail shops, STRs, hotels, and condominiums.
A recent report from the Downtown Development District of New Orleans highlights these developments. A link to that report is provided below.
Steeg Law is proud to have been a part of this revitalization. We have represented the developers of several new condominium projects in the Downtown area. We represent several established Downtown office buildings and have helped several new business people lease or purchase properties in the area for purposes as diverse as a small office building, a new restaurant, and a new retail store. For our lender clients, we have handled numerous loans to finance or refinance Downtown projects.
Downtown’s transformation has been truly remarkable. We are proud to have been a part of it.
