This past holiday season, Steeg Law continued the firm’s annual tradition of participation in Catholic Charities “Adopt a Family,” a gift-giving program to help families in need.
Jan LeBlanc, who is a paralegal at Steeg Law, organizes the firm’s participation each year. “This is our 18th year partnering with Catholic Charities, Archdiocese of New Orleans (CCANO). CCANO assists disadvantaged families in the metro area throughout the year as they struggle to meet basic needs. Predictably, the holiday season presents an even greater challenge for these families. It is for this reason that CCANO partners with groups and organizations looking to reach out and share the spirit of the holiday season by “adopting” such families.”
This year, Steeg Law adopted a family headed by a single mother of four whose children range from seven months to seventeen years of age. All participating staff are asked to choose one family member for gift giving. Inevitably, most staff select more than one family member, and in some cases, all family members, for gift giving.
The customary “Gift Wrap Luncheon” was held on December 12th in the firm’s large conference room. This year, 78 individual gift boxes and bags were wrapped or filled. In addition, the firm raised $600 for the purchase of Walmart gift cards for the family’s current and future needs. Once packaged for delivery, eight extra-large, personalized lawn bags were filled for delivery to the family.
Upon delivery to the Catholic Charities offices last year, Jan was told by one of the coordinators that she believes Steeg Law to be one of the longest, continually participating partners in the program. Without question, the firm looks forward to continuing this successful and rewarding tradition.
