As a Board Member of the Lower 9th Ward Homeowners Association, partner Charles L. Stern is happy to shine the community spotlight on this resident-run, 501(c)3 organization dedicated to providing individual assistance, outreach and organizing expertise to New Orleans’ Lower 9th Ward community.

The Lower 9th Ward Homeowners Association (L9WHA) was established in 2006 to address the needs expressed by residents trying to return home after the levees failed. The mission of the L9WHA is the preservation and creation of homeownership and the Resident-Driven Revitalization of our historic community.

L9WHA’s Vision

1. Existing homeowners are secure in their ownership. We will help existing homeowners remain in their homes, continuing the legacy of homeownership left to them by their parents and grandparents.

2. The L9 is a quality neighborhood for establishing a home, where residents act collectively to build a vibrant community. We will support community initiatives that build collective power, nurture quality of life, and further our
goals related to homeownership.

3. There is an annual increase in the population of Lower 9th Ward homeowners. We will support homeownership creation to continue our neighborhood’s historic strength, build African American wealth, and sustain a healthy, economically viable community.
