As a longtime supporter of WWNO 89.9FM, Steeg Law is proud to shine the spotlight on Friends of New Orleans Public Radio, a new organization formed to help financially and programmatically support the radio station.

Since 1972, WWNO, a nonprofit, listener-supported public radio station serving greater New Orleans and Southeast Louisiana, has provided trusted news and cultural programming from local, national and international sources.

In light of the loss of federal funding for public radio and television stations throughout the country, local public media outlets have turned to other funding sources to plug the gap, and interested citizens are stepping up to help. In New Orleans, a number of people have gotten together to form Friends of New Orleans Public Radio, Inc., including Managing Partner Robert Steeg, who is secretary of the board. The Louisiana non-profit, federally tax-exempt corporation is designed to be an additional means of support for the local NPR station.

Friends of New Orleans Public Radio’s first project was to provide, from funds held by the organization as a result of its formation, a matching grant during WWNO’s most recent fundraising session. The organization plans to expand its scope and reach in the future, providing valuable monetary support and citizen participation for the programs and projects of the radio station.

The newly-formed organization is still in its infancy and cannot yet receive donations, however stayed tuned for future developments.
