Steeg Law is delighted to shine the community spotlight on Agenda for Children’s “80 for 80 Challenge” for the School Readiness Tax Credit program for Businesses.

The “80 for 80 Challenge” builds on the fact that 80% of a child’s brain is developed by age three. The challenge is for 80 businesses to help Louisiana’s children thrive by donating to the School Readiness Tax Credit program.

Join Us in the 80 for 80 Challenge Today!

As a long-time sponsor of Agenda for Children, Steeg Law invites you to join us in the “80 for 80 Challenge” to consider for your end of the year giving. Businesses with a Louisiana Tax ID are eligible to receive a 100% refundable state tax credit up to $5,000 for contributions to Child Care Resource & Referral Agencies (CCR&Rs), including Agenda for Children.

The SRTC program funds Agenda’s Early Childhood Opportunity Fund (ECHO). This innovative grant program directly supports the needs of early learning centers in New Orleans and SE Louisiana, investing in increased access to high-quality early care and education for our youngest learners.

Quality early childhood education fuels our future. It keeps parents in the workforce, attracts companies to our state, and develops the talent and skills businesses need to succeed.

As Managing Partner Robert Steeg says about the SRTC program, “There’s no down-side and a huge up-side. You get every penny back. Instead of giving your money to the government you can direct it to a worthwhile charity, helping both our economy and the children of our State.”

If you are interested in learning more about the benefits of contributing to the SRTC program for your company and Louisiana’s children, watch Agenda’s new video “The 80 for 80 Challenge,” which stars Robert Steeg himself.

The Need is Urgent Due to Hurricane Ida

With the ongoing challenges of Hurricane Ida, child care centers in SE Louisiana, already struggling because of the pandemic, need funding to help them get up and running. This is critical for parents to be able to return to the workforce and our region’s continued economic recovery.

Agenda for Children is leading the region’s hurricane response for 600+ child care centers. Their team has the ability to get child care providers assistance quickly through their local partners. With your support, they will continue to provide centers with grants for operating funds, scholarships for children, and more.

Your Investment Will Pay Dividends for Generations

As documented by the landmark HighScope Perry Preschool Project research, low-income children who participated in a high quality early childhood education were more likely to graduate from high school, earn more money, own their own homes and build a stable foundation for their families. Their own children have continued to make gains in education, health, employment and civic life.

How the SRTC Works

This tax credit is part of a package of School Readiness Tax Credits (SRTCs) that was passed in 2007 to support quality child care and education. (La. Rev. Stat. § 47:6107)

You can take the credit against individual income tax, corporation income tax, or corporation franchise tax on your Louisiana State taxes. You can keep your state tax dollars local by designating that your donation fund child care centers in your parish.

The process couldn’t be easier. Submit a contribution form and Agenda for Children, a CCR&R for 12 parishes in Southeast Louisiana, will email you a receipt and verification letter.
